Visiting Cincinnati & Southern Ohio

Southern Ohio comes alive in spring and summer. Cheers rising from Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park as the Reds open the 2013 season. Southwest Ohio is Reds country and a Reds game is a must for spring and summer visitors. Memorial Day weekend in Cincinnati brings the opening of Coney Island Amusement Park, which hosts the Tri for Joe Triathlon benefiting the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. East of Cincy, the Village of Mount Orab host’s travelers headed for East Fork Lake State Park and Ohio’s outdoor summer recreation destinations. Don’t miss the Ross County Fair in Chillicothe and enjoy your southern Ohio travels.

Spring in Cincinnati brings the flight of butterflies to Krohn Conservatory. The 2013 International Butterfly Show features the Butterflies of Morocco, and runs from April 20th through June 30th. Thousands of butterflies fill Krohn Conservatory signaling spring and Cincinnati’s warm season. Adding to the experience, the conservatory is transformed into a Moroccan themed destination with music, sets and gardens typical of Morocco.

Spring in Cincinnati also brings the opening of the 2013 season for the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad. Take a scenic ride through Warren County with family and friends while you learn about local history and the railroad. Check the LM&M calendar for special events including the Train Ride with Clifford and the Day Out with Thomas.

It’s the season to get outside and be active. Dayton celebrates the 38th Annual Oakwood Run, May 18th. The 2013 event is good for all ages and abilities, featuring events including a 2k Fun Run, 5K, 10K and wheelchair divisions. Join the challenge at Dayton’s Oakwood High School on Far Hills Avenue.

A musical highlight of summer, the 2013 Cincy Blues Fest is set for August 2nd and 3rd. Celebrating its 21st year, the Cincy Blues Fest takes place at Sawyer Point Park on the banks of the Ohio River. See the best of the Cincy Blues Challenge performers on the St. Vincent De Paul Local Stage; the Showcase Stage features Women of the Blues; and enjoy the music of Nikki Hill, Watermelon Slim and the Workers and Ana Popovi? among the lineup on the Budweiser Main Stage.
