Visiting Columbus & Central Ohio
Columbus and central Ohio come alive in spring and summer with events, festivals, and fun. The 2016 Columbus Arts Festival kicks off summer events, June 10th through 12th, on the downtown Riverfront. The Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau presents the 2016 Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival, June 17th to 19th. And the Columbus Recreation & Parks Department brings the 2016 Jazz & Rib Fest to the downtown Riverfront, July 22nd through 24th.
Athletes are already training for the 2016 Subway Fresh Fit Triathlon and Duathlon, which features Olympic and sprint distance events as well as a collegiate division on June 12th. Events begin with a swim along the shore of Alum Creek State Park, followed by run and swim segments, challenging racers along courses spanning the park.
Thirty miles north of Zanesville, the historic Roscoe Village hosts the 2016 Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival June 17th through 19th. Headliners for the 42nd Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival include Madeline MacNeil and Joshua Messick. It's a chance to hear a bounty traditional music and maybe even learn how to play yourself – the three-day festival's schedule is full of workshops and lesson sessions.
Ohio Wesleyan University and historic downtown Delaware welcome summer visitors to the 2016 Creative Strings Workshop & Festival in late June and early July. String players from across the country arrive at Port Columbus International Airport and join Christian Howes and friends on campus at Ohio Wesleyan University for the 14th year of annual staple. All ages and string instrument players are welcome – the festival includes both youth and adult programs and workshops.
Mt. Gilead State Park, 25 miles northeast of Columbus and Delaware, makes a great summer outdoor getaway. Mt. Gilead Lake allows canoes, kayaks, and rowboats, with the surrounding parklands ideal for hiking and picnics. Take the kids fishing for bass and bluegill and enjoy an outdoor summer getaway to Mount Gilead.
Enjoy traditional summer fun at the 2016 Marion County Fair June 17th through July 20th. Held north of downtown Marion at the Marion County Fairgrounds, this year's festivities mark 168 years of fair fun in Marion. Take in the traditional 4-H exhibits, get a thrill on the midway rides, see monster truck action, catch live bear and chicken shows, and sing along with musical acts like Jason Wells.
