Akron Zoo

Home to over 90 different species, the Akron Zoo is Akron in northeast Ohio. Originally opened in 1953 – the park is over 50 acres, boasting over one million visitors annually. The zoo also has frequent day and night events.

All American Soap Box Derby

Founded in 1943, the All-American Soap Box Derby is held in Akron in northeast Ohio every July. The event is broken down into three racing divisions – the Stock division, the Super Stock division, and the Masters division.

Competitors travel from all across the country to compete for possible scholarships and other merchandise prizes. Apart from the racing events, the newly sanctioned Ultimate Speed Challenge offers competitors and spectators a new and exciting event that pushes the limits derby car racing.

Established in 2000, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park preserves the natural and rural landscape along the Cuyahoga River in northeast Ohio just north of Akron.

The vast landscape stretches over 20,000 acres and is administered by the National Park Service.

Aside from the park’s natural beauty, the park offers numerous bike and hiking trails spanning rolling hills and woodlands.

The multi-purpose Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath is a major trail that traverses the park – connecting many of the natural and historic sites.

David Berger National Memorial

Found just outside of Cleveland in the suburb of Beachwood, the David Berger National Memorial commemorates the life of the former Olympic star athlete. The memorial can be found in front of the Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland.

Although the site received its namesake from David Berger, the memorial commemorates each of the 11 Olympic athletes whom lost their lives during the Munich Olympics. The memorial is symbolically comprised of several “broken” Olympic rings.

First Ladies National Historic Site

Found in the suburb of Canton – just south of Akron in northeast Ohio – the First Ladies National Historical Site sits to honor the First Ladies of the U.S. throughout history. The site is comprised of two properties – the First Lady Ira Saxton McKinley home and the 1895 City Bank Building.

Guests are encouraged to make a stop at the Education and Research Center found inside of the City Bank Building for an extensive collection of historical exhibits. Tours of the Ira Saxton McKinley restored Victorian home are also given frequently.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

Ranking as the 12th largest house in the United States, the 70-acre Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is a notable country estate located in northeast Ohio. The estate was built by Goodyear Tire founder – F.A. Seiberling between 1912 and 1915.

The estate proudly hosts multiple national events – the Annual Classic, Antique and Collector Car Show, and the Ohio Shakespeare Festival are all hosted on the lovely garden grounds. Speaking of lovely gardens, the estate maintains and showcases nine major gardens as well as the Corbin Conservatory – a green house open to the public.
